Move-Out Process

Please complete the following steps to ensure that you move-out properly and do not receive a $100 improper move-out fee:

  • Select your housing community below to sign up for a move-out time:

You will move-out with a staff member instead of returning your keys to the Housing and Residence Life office. Make sure you sign up early so you can get your preferred move-out time!

*Please note: You may move-out prior move-out signups beginning on July 20th. If you want to move out prior to July 20th please visit the nearest Housing Office (University Village 6000 Office, Austin Residence Complex Town Hall or the Marietta Housing Office) to move out with our staff there. You do not need to sign up for a move-out appointment, but you will need to complete Steps 2 & 3 listed below prior to turning your key in.

  • Staff members will arrive at your room at your move-out time and will be able to wait no more than 5 minutes for you to be present and ready for move-out. Before the staff member arrives, please ensure the following:

    • Close and lock all of your windows and lower your blinds
    • Set the A/C to cool at 72 degrees
    • Remove all of your personal belongings
    • Make sure all the furniture is in its original location (e.g., our desk chair should be with the desk in your room)
  • Residents who do not return their room to the original move-in condition will receive cleaning charges. Remove all items from the door. Special attention should be given to all surfaces, including beds, mattresses, desktops, shelves, drawers, closets, floors, windows, windowsills, common spaces, etc. You will be billed for any loss of furniture and for damages that have occurred since you moved in (not due to normal wear/tear) along with any cleaning that is needed.

Please note: Due to the volume of move-outs and need to stay on time, if you are not ready for your move-out appointment you will be charged a $100 improper move-out fee.

  • Please return your move-out key to the appointed staff members during your move-out time to avoid being charged a Lost Key Charge of $75.

Move-Out Tips

Here are a few helpful tips as you prepare for move out:

  • We highly recommend that you speak with your roommates about your move-out plans to decide who will be responsible for cleaning common area spaces (bathrooms, sinks, cabinets, etc.). If the common areas in your unit are not cleaned, all roommates will incur a cleaning fee, regardless of who moved out last.
  • Please remember parking is still enforced during move-out and park your vehicle in your permitted area during move-out.
  • Protect your property many thefts and other campus crimes occur during this time of the year. Avoid leaving personal possessions unattended or in the hallways while you are in transit. Also, remove any bikes from the outside bike racks before you leave.

Please understand, if you do not return your key to the office or follow the steps above, you will be held responsible for a $100 improper move-out fee. Residents who do not move out of their rooms by their expected move-out date will be charged an additional $100 per each extra day they remain in their room. Residents who have lost their key are expected to go to the front desk to officially move-out of their room and notify staff of the lost key, otherwise they will be charged an improper move-out fee.

Any belongings left behind in your bedroom after move-out will be discarded/thrown away by Housing Facilities and you will be billed a fee for removing the items, in addition to an improper move-out fee.
